So much to see and do... When you visit the SchoolHouse, you visit
an area rich in scenic wonders, cultural activities, and possibilities
for outdoor recreation. No matter what the time of year, you'll
find exciting things to see and do in Southern Oregon.
The famed Oregon Shakespeare Festival
in nearby Ashland presents world-class theater nearly year round.
The Festival features works of the Bard staged in its outdoor
Elizabethan theater modeled after the original Globe Theater in
London. Performances of works by contemporary playwrights are
also presented in the Festival's modern indoor theater facilities.
In addition to theater, the picturesque town of Ashland brims
with unique shops, fine restaurants, and night clubs for visitors
to enjoy, and beautiful Lithia Park with its babbling brook, duck
ponds, gardens and fountains is an idyllic place in the heart
of town to picnic or just relax.
The Britt Music Festival in nearby
Jacksonville hosts a summer-long series of concerts under the
stars, including performances by top-name classical, jazz, country,
folk, and pop artists from around the world. Jacksonville itself,
a beautifully preserved Gold Rush town founded in the 1850s, offers
historic tours, plus delightful restaurants, shops, and galleries
to explore.
For outdoor recreation, numerous
mountain lakes, boundless woods, and the scenic Rogue River offer
camping, fishing, hiking, and boating opportunities aplenty. In
winter skiers will find several snow parks within easy reach.
Spectacular Crater Lake National Park is just two-hours drive
from the Rogue Valley. Majestic Mount Shasta is just over the
hill to the south. And the Oregon coast, with its towering redwoods
and spectacular vistas, is also within a few hours drive.
